Andrea Mika is a mathematics teacher at Jesuit High School of New Orleans. She has been in education for 14 years and began her career as an Americorps Service Scholar teaching Math and History in Michigan. She earned her BS in Education with a major in Mathematics from Central Michigan University. After volunteering with Catholic Charities and Jesuit Relief Services rebuilding homes in 2007, she chose to return to New Orleans to continue to serve as a middle and high school educator and private tutor. Since 2016 she has also presented at international Texas Instruments conferences to help fellow educators incorporate STEAM concepts such as coding into their math curriculum.

This Summer, the Math+ course will focus on Number Theory – the study of integers (e.g., -1, 2, 3). Over the six classes, we will explore different aspects of this critical concept and will learn what Number Theory is and how it relates to computer applications and important topics including cryptography.

NOTE: The course will be hosted via Zoom and will be held on the dates and times below in CENTRAL TIME (CT). As the course is virtual, students do not have to be based in New Orleans to enroll.
