Level: Middle School (6th-8th)
Location: Rockhurst High School or Virtually
Mr. Owsley is the director of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) initiative at Rockhurst High School where he teaches AP Calculus II. He was formerly the chair of the Mathematics department for six years. He earned a BA in Mathematics from the University of Rochester, a MAT from Webster University and an MS in Educational Leadership from St. Joseph's University.
This Summer, the Math+ course will focus on Number Theory – the study of integers (e.g., -1, 2, 3). Over the six classes, we will explore different aspects of this critical concept and will learn what Number Theory is and how it relates to computer applications and important topics including cryptography.
NOTE: The course will be offered in person at Rockhurst High School. Room location and safety protocols will be communicated to registrants. The course will be streamed virtually as well. All students, virtually or in person, will be using interactive software to navigate the material and keep everyone included.
